THIS PIECE, WAS DEVELOPED FROM THE SONG CYCLE, FUGITIVE SONGS. EACH SOMG CENTRES AROUND A DIFFERENT PERSON WHO IS EACH ON THE RUN FROM SOMETHING IN THEIR LIFE. TO CONTEXTUALISE THIS WE DEVELOPED A CONCEPT OF EACH OF THE PEOPLE GATHERING IN AN AMERICAN ROADSIDE KARAOKE BAR, TRANSFORMING THE BLACK BOX STUDIO IN TO AN IMMERSIVE CABARET STYLE EXPERIENCE. THE COSTUMES WERE A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS, BEING DEVELOPED AS THE ACTORS EXPLORED THEIR BACK STORY.
PROCESS
I STARTED EXPLORING THROUGH DRAWING IMAGE REPRESENTATIONS OF PEOPLE AT A CROSSROADS, BEFORE STARTING TO EXPLORE THE QUINTESSENTIAL ICONOGRAPHY ON AMERICAN BARS .
DESIGNING
REALISATION
DUE TO LIMITED BUDGET THE REALISATION WAS VERY HANDS ON, SOURCING PROPS, DECOR AND COSTUME FROM FLEA MARKETS, CHARITY SHOPS AND ONLINE MARKETPLACES.
